Why do you suppose there are the ten commandments and all the other laws and commands in the Bible? Yes, they are the foundational base line of right and wrong, but what is their purpose?
They help us stay in our lane. However, is that the reason we have biblical commands?
The Apostle Paul said that “No one can be made right with God by following the law (God’s commands). The law only shows us our sin. (Romans 3:20 NCV)
Meaning, we can’t say we are wrong, unless we compare ourselves to what is right - thus God’s laws and commands. In other words, we can’t “earn” God’s favor.
If we can’t earn our way to forgiveness, heaven and life ever after, how can we be made right with God?
Paul then said “God makes people right with himself through their faith in Jesus Christ. This is true for all who believe in Christ, because all people are the same: Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard,” (Romans 3:20, 22-23 NCV)
If you stop and think about it, ““God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NCV)
For me, what’s amazing about this, is that God loved us first. He “initiates” salvation in our life. For me, this is humbling and causes a deep and wide level of love and appreciation for His grace.
It keeps me from judging others. Instead, it compels me to try and contribute positive and Godly change. It’s the one responsibility that I am in charge of. I can live out God’s commands and encourage others to follow them.
Yet in the end, forgivenss and salvation is relying only on Jesus’s life, perfection and sacrifice to pay for my our sins. I could never earn salvation.
If you are a Christ follower, something triggered your desire for God. It was being lost, depressed, sad or some kind of emptiness. Maybe you got tired of being angry and finally needed some freedom and peace.
There is nothing like enjoying God’s true grace.
LORD, you loved us first. Thank you a thousand times for saving me when I was not interested in being saved. IJNIP amen ♥️
