Why Would God Create A World He Knew Would Fail And Sin

If God knew Adam and Eve were going to sin, why create the world in the first place?

Honestly, this is one of the hardest questions in the entire Bible and so many people have asked it.

This came up in my reading: “Sin came into the world because of what one man did, and with sin came death. This is why everyone must die, because everyone sinned.” (Romans 5:12 NCV)

So God created Adam and I suppose He created Him to sin - right?

IF THERE WAS NO SIN

What’s up with that, and how does this work? The fact is, sin has changed everything. Before that, there was no death, no disease, no cancer, no broken marriages, no cemeteries, no funerals. Sin entered the world, and death followed right behind it.

IF GOD KNEW - WHY LET IT ALL GO BAD

But that still leaves the question: If God knew all of this was coming, why create Adam and Eve at all?

The Bible never says God was surprised. In fact, it says just the opposite. Before God created the world, He already knew the cross was coming. Here’s the verse: “Christ was chosen before the world was made, but he was shown to the world in these last times for your sake.” (1 Peter 1:20)

Jesus wasn’t God’s backup plan after Adam failed. He was God’s plan from the very beginning.

I don’t pretend to understand everything about this, because God is so much larger than us. It’s like an ant trying to figure out a human. There are some things only God knows. But I do think the Bible gives us enough to trust Him. So, let’s look at it.

HOW SIN IS A GOOD THING

Here’s one thought that has changed the way I think.

Had Adam never sinned, we would know God as our Creator. We would stand in awe of His power, wisdom, creativity, and beauty.

But we would never know Him as our Savior. We would never know forgiveness. We would never experience grace. We would never understand mercy. We would never see the depth of God’s love demonstrated on a cross.

I mean, Jesus died for us, “while” we were yet in sin. (Romans 5:8) Who does that?

The greatest display of God’s glory isn’t creation. It’s the cross Christ died on. Just think about it. The worst event in human history, the crucifixion of the only perfect man who ever lived, became the greatest act of love the world has ever known.

GOD IS SOVEREIGN - YOU CAN’T STOP HIS PLAN

“These people made their plans against your holy servant Jesus… They did what you had decided long ago would happen.” (Acts 4:27–28 NCV)

That doesn’t mean sin is good. It isn’t. Sin destroys everything it touches. But God is so sovereign (His plan cannot be changed), that even humanity’s rebellion cannot stop His purposes.

Instead, He uses it to display His justice, His mercy, His grace, and ultimately the glory of His Son. All through sin, and the salvation from it.

I’ve also thought about this personally. Looking back over my own life, there are things I wish I had never done. There are sins I wish I could erase. Yet those are the very failures that became the places where I experienced God’s forgiveness most deeply.

Had I never needed His mercy, I never would have understood how amazing His grace really is. I would not be living in deep gratitude now, and the hope and confidence of eternity.

THE FUTURE OF THE BELIEVER

If you are a Christ follower, one day, all of this will end. There will be no more death. No more disease. No more cancer. No more brain tumors. No more broken hearts. No more funerals. No more tears. God will make all things new. (Revelation 21:5) We will live in a new heaven and a new earth after our death. (Revelation 21)

Until then, we live between two gardens, Eden, where sin entered the world, and the New Jerusalem, where sin will never enter again.

No, it’s not perfect at all, put perfect is coming if you and I ask Christ to be our Lord and Savior, then love and follow Him. Not just say it with our lips, but live it with our lives.

FOUR QUESTIONS YOU MUST ANSWER

If you’re still searching or even skeptical, let me leave you with this thought. Every worldview has to answer four questions: Why is there evil? Why do we all die? Is there any hope? And what happens after this life?

THE ANSWER TO THE FOUR QUESTIONS

Christ is your life line and your eternity. Here’s a truth. You and I are going to die. The question isn’t if, it’s when. The far more important question is this: Have you accepted the only cure God has provided? We don’t just float up to a beautiful life after death. Christ is “the only way” to heaven and salvation.

The story of the Bible isn’t ultimately about Adam’s failure. It’s about Jesus’ victory and our salvation. Every story in the Old Testament is a symbolic of Christ. Every story in the New Testament is about Jesus Christ. He’s kind of a big deal.

Adam brought sin and death into the world. But Christ offers forgiveness, life, and the promise that one day He will make everything sad come untrue. He’s your healing. He’s your life. He’s your love. He’s your answer to the thing you fight. I don’t know what I would do without my new life in Jesus Christ.

LORD, your ways really are not our ways. Your thoughts are not like ours. And your plan is sovereign, you knew what you were doing since day one. I trust you, believe in you, love you and want to love you more. Not just what you do for me - but you. IJNIP amen ♥️
