Why do good people die? Do good people die? Do Godly people die? Why doesn’t God rescue them from death?
It’s somewhat a mystery, yet it’s a better plan for us than the alternative. I know that can be hard to believe.
Do you remember the disciple James, the brother of the disciple John? “King Herod began to mistreat some who belonged to the church. He ordered James, the brother of John, to be killed by the sword.” (Acts 12:1-2 NCV)
Not only was James killed in the beginning of his ministry as a disciple, so many other Godly people were also killed. They were mistreated and tortured to death. Who were these Godly peopel who were killed?
All the disciples, prophets, Godly followers, even Jesus himself.
Why would we think God might save us? For some reason, sometimes unknown, God allows Jesus followers to go home to heaven early.
I think He sees earthly death much differently than us. His eyes are eternal eyes. His timeline is eternity. This life on earth is a blip on the radar screen of the timeline of eternity.
So how should we respond to this?
First, please remember and know this life is very, very short and temporary compared to eternity. So it’s very wise to seal your eternal life in Jesus Christ. Suddenly, something could arrive in your life and cut it short.
You wouldn’t renovate and redecorate your hotel room because you know you are checking out soon. This life is similar.
But wait - sometimes God rescues. In this story above, the story went on as to how Peter was miracualousy saved from jail by an angel. For many, they were healed, raised from the dead and even fed food.
God saved Noah’s family, split seas, delivered the Isrealites to the Promised Land, provided Christ to save our souls for eternity and the awesome list of goodness, healing and blessings goes on and on.
You can’t put God in a box. Sometimes he rescues in the way we plan - sometimes, He has another plan. The Psalmist said it best; “Teach us how short our lives really are so that we may be wise.” (Psalms 90:12 NCV)
There is no safer place than in Christ, in your Bible, walking with God, worshipping Him and continuing to ask Him for His grace, mercy and love.
LORD, help us use this day wisely and honor you. IJNIP amen ♥️
