What Does “Living Light” Look Like For You?

What would life be like if you didn’t have a house full of stuff? No furniture to protect, no lawn to mow, no storage unit packed with things you don’t even use.

What if instead of settling down, you spent your days on the move, going where God leads, sharing the good news of Jesus?

Sounds radical, doesn’t it? But it also sounds freeing.

That’s how the Apostle Paul lived. He once had power, status, and wealth. He had authority. People respected him. But when Jesus changed his life, Paul let it all go.

He left comfort behind and hit the road with a mission.

“Paul said many things to strengthen the followers in the different places on his way through Macedonia. Then he went to Greece, where he stayed for three months. He was ready to sail for Syria, but some evil people were planning something against him. So Paul decided to go back through Macedonia to Syria.” (Acts 20:2-3 NCV)

Paul didn’t retire. He gave his life to something bigger than himself.

No vacation homes. No fishing trips. No golf every Tuesday. He kept moving. Kept preaching. Kept serving. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to.

We should live light. Jesus told His followers, “Don’t carry a purse, a bag, or sandals, and don’t waste time talking with people on the road.” (Luke 10:4 NCV)

In other words, don’t get too tied down. Keep it simple. Stay focused. Trust God.

Peter said this way: “You are like foreigners and strangers in this world.” (1 Peter 2:11 NCV)

We’re not supposed to make this world our forever home. We’re here for a while, but it’s not where we’re staying.

But here’s the thing. Too many people hit retirement and check out. They’ve worked hard, raised a family, and now they’re ready to live for themselves.

They want to travel the country. Buy the boat. See the world. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying life. But what if retirement became your greatest season of ministry?

What if you used your freedom to help others find theirs?

You don’t have to move every few months or live out of a backpack. But you also don’t have to live for leisure. You could live for the Lord.

You could mentor younger believers. Volunteer. Serve. Encourage. Go where God sends you. Let your life keep moving. And keep sharing.

Even Paul worked when he needed to. He made tents to support himself (Acts 18:3 NCV). He partnered with others for the journey.

And yes, he still had practical needs, if Paul were alive today, I’m sure he’d tell you to make sure you’ve got health insurance, be wise, but don’t let comfort or your schedule become your master.

So maybe it’s time to ask the hard question. Are you living like this world is your final destination, or are you still on mission?

It’s never too late to travel light, trust God, and keep going where He leads.

You don’t have to retire from serving Jesus. Not now. Not ever. Live ready. Stay available. Always moving. Always trusting.

Here’s Paul’s capstone:

“But now I must obey the Holy Spirit and go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what will happen to me there. I know only that in every city the Holy Spirit tells me that troubles and even jail wait for me. I don’t care about my own life. The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace.” (Acts‬ ‭20‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NCV)

GOD, help me live this way. IJNIP amen ♥️
