Make An Appointment With Yourself - You Are Worth It

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and thought, “I don’t look much like I did when I was younger”? (Wendy is going to kill me for posting this 🙂)
I’ve had that moment. My face shows the years, my body doesn’t move quite the same, and if I’m honest, some of it is my own doing.
What happened? Life happened. Work, stress, kids, responsibilities. And over time, I stopped making an appointment with myself.
The Bible says, “You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit who is in you. You have received the Holy Spirit from God. So you do not belong to yourselves, because you were bought by God for a price. So honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NCV).
Wendy has been faithfully lifting weights and showing up in our gym lately, and I see the difference. She’s making an appointment with herself.
Not just for me, not even for the kids, but for her. That’s where health starts. We often say, “I’ll do it for my spouse” or “I’ll do it for my family.” And yes, they benefit. But you have to decide you’re worth the investment, too.
I have to admit, when she comes to the gym, so do I … we need to inspire each other. And if you don’t charge your batteries first, you are no good to others.
Look at Moses. “Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not weak, and he was still strong” (Deuteronomy 34:7 NCV). That verse stops me every time I read it. Moses lived a long, hard life, yet his body remained strong until the end. He didn’t neglect himself. God blessed him.
Even bestselling author James Clear in Atomic Habits says, “Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.” Health isn’t about one huge change. It’s about daily votes, showing up, eating wisely, exercising faithfully, resting well.
It’s time to stop saying, “One day I’ll get to it.” That “one day” never comes unless you put it on your calendar. Make an appointment with yourself.
Decide what your body will look like, how much energy you’ll have, and what kind of life you’ll be able to live ten years from now. Goals “with deadlines” just work. Otherwise, it’s an objective that you may never achieve.
A goal says “I’ll lose 20 pounds by October 31st.” An objective says “I need to lose 20 pounds.” We need deadlines.
Proverbs reminds us: “Take care of yourself, and you will be happy. Take care of your soul, and you will have peace” (Proverbs 19:8 NCV).
I don’t want to just finish life spiritually strong. I want to finish physically strong, too. Not because I think I’ll look like I did at 20, but because I want to give God, my spouse, my kids, and even myself the best version of me I can.
Draw a line, write “start”, and give it your best. When you mess up, and you will, that’s okay, just draw another line, and do it again.
A year from now (even 90 days), you’ll look back and see all the lines. You still won’t be where you desire, but you won’t be where you were - Finish Well.
So today, I’m making an appointment with myself. Will you?
LORD, help us adopt this appointment system in all areas of our life. So much to learn, so much to do, so many to serve - Holy Spirit, help us start today - right now. IJNIP amen ♥️
