Living With Purpose: God First, Others Always

What are your goals and aspirations? How much of your life is spent on your own well-being? And how generous are you toward others?

Life can feel complicated—our careers, raising children, daily routines, and even caring for ourselves all demand our attention.

But how much of our time, energy, and resources should be dedicated to ourselves, and how much should be given in love and service to others?

Each day, my Bible reading includes the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs—a powerful daily bread. Today, I read about those who served God in the book of Numbers. In the New Testament, I came across this moment:

“Jesus sat near the Temple money box and watched the people put in their money. Many rich people gave large sums of money. Then a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which were only worth a few cents.” (Mark 12:41-42, NCV)

“Calling his followers to him, Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, this poor widow gave more than all those rich people. They gave only what they did not need. This woman is very poor, but she gave all she had; she gave all she had to live on.’” (Mark 12:43-44, NCV)

At the end of the day, I believe our true starting point is honoring God and giving to others. This aligns perfectly with the greatest commandments:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love others as yourself." (Mark 12:29-31)

I know I say this often (maybe to the point of redundancy!), but this truth is the very foundation of life.

Our mental, emotional, and even physical well-being are all protected and provided for by God. He is our anchor, and worshipping Him and serving others is our evidence of love, kindness, and generosity.

Of course, we have responsibilities—we work, take care of our homes, and even enjoy life’s blessings along the way. But if we neglect worshipping God and serving others, we will find ourselves empty.

The deepest fulfillment, the richest joy, comes from giving generously, worshipping sincerely, and walking in thankfulness.

When we work hard for God and others, resting in the free grace that Jesus provided, we are forgiven, heaven-bound, and surrounded by His provision, protection, and blessings.

What a great life that is.

LORD, thank You for Your blessings. Thank You for Jesus, who paid for our sins. Help us to live as if we truly believe it. Help us to love You and love others with our whole hearts. IJNIP Amen. ❤️
