Have Things Gotten Worse?

Do you ever feel like the world is spinning out of control?
How can people develop such twisted thoughts that they would shoot a Christian guy like Charlie Kirk?
Maybe you’ve thought, “Things are worse now than they’ve ever been.” But are they really? Or are we just seeing history repeat itself in new clothes?
This morning I was reading Isaiah, and it almost numbs and confuses me.
In those days, God was speaking to Jerusalem and Judah about their future, and it sounds a lot like what we see today. Jerusalem and Judah were filled with injustice, greed, arrogance, and idolatry. They were proud of their sin and didn’t care who saw it.
To be honest, it sounds a lot like the United States of America.
Evil exists, people get brainwashed by social media, and it makes them sick. I’ve heard over and over that social media is a cancer. We are pulling away from each other, glued to our devices in the bathroom, at stoplights, and in every idle moment.
What is happening to us?
It was the same back in Jerusalem and Judah’s day, they were drifting away from God, and so are we.
You and I both know we need more human touch. We need more worship, more prayer, more slowing down to actually see one another. We need more God and less of the world.
What does your world look like right now?
Is there too much news, too much social media, too much of your own opinion being poured out? Are we drifting and worshipping less? Are we pulling away from the Bible and leaning into our devices too much?
I say yes.
God judged Jerusalem and Judah. Isaiah said: “This will happen because Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen. The things they say and do are against the Lord; they turn against him. The look on their faces shows they are guilty; like the people of Sodom, they are proud of their sin. They don’t care who sees it” (Isaiah 3:8-9 NCV).
Proud of sin. Celebrating it. Flaunting it in the open. Doesn’t that sound like today? Being selfish and displaying hate? Are you and I acting and living as God prescribes in his word?
What’s happening to us? Is it happening to you?
So, have things gotten worse? Not really. Humanity has always bent toward sin. What Isaiah saw then, we see now. And just like then, the answer is not in leaders, policies, or systems—it’s in turning back to God.
Jesus warned: “Because evil will grow, most people’s love will grow cold. But the person who continues to be strong until the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:12-13 NCV).
So what do we do?
We stay rooted in God’s Word every day. If we don’t, we will drift. We refuse to be proud of sin even if the culture celebrates it. And sin is anything we know contradicts God’s word.
We keep loving even when the world grows cold. And we remember Jesus’ command: “Love your enemies and pray for those who hurt you” (Matthew 5:44 NCV).
The good news is that God has always been faithful to rescue those who trust Him. He still is today. He wants us to return to Him. What will you and I do with these new events and where we find ourselves today?
I feel a little unstable today. Lord, please stabilize me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen ♥️
