What Does Your Walk Reveal?

Time, brings all things to light. What is time revealing about you?

Have you ever watched somebody keep making the same bad choices and thought, “How can they not see what they are doing?” In advising others, I see a lot of this - even in myself.

Solomon said, “The heart of the wise leads to right, but the heart of a fool leads to wrong. Even in the way fools walk along the road, they show they are not wise; they show everyone how stupid they are.” (Ecclesiastes 10:2–3, NCV)

The original Hebrew text is the idea “the way” - meaning the way we walk and travel “eventually” reveals what’s going on inside of us.

We all have explanations for ourselves. “I meant well.” “I was just having fun.”“You don’t know what I’ve been through.” “I’ve changed.” “They made me angry.” “That’s just the way I am.”

But after a while, our walk starts telling the truth. The way we handle money, anger, relationships, temptation, correction, responsibility, forgiveness, and disappointment reveals a lot about our heart. We can say all the right things, but repeated behavior is hard to hide. Our walk is beginning to reveal.

The “heart” Solomon is talking about includes our thinking, judgment, desires, and choices. A wise person is not somebody who never messes up. A wise person can admit when they are wrong, receive correction, learn the lesson, and change direction.

A foolish person keeps walking the same road, getting the same results, and often blaming everybody else for where they ended up.

So here is the question I’m asking myself this morning: What does my walk reveal about me? If someone watched the way I have lived the last six months, would they see growth? Would they see humility? Would they see me learning from my mistakes?

Or would they see me defending the same behavior, repeating the same patterns, and wondering why nothing changes?

Sometimes we keep asking God to change our circumstances when maybe He is trying to change us.

Wisdom begins when we stop defending every decision and start asking, “Lord, is there something in me that needs to change?”

The good news is that just because we have been walking the wrong road does not mean we have to stay on it. God can change our heart, and when our heart changes, eventually our walk changes too. But we have to come clean with Him.

LORD, help me see what my life is revealing. Give me a humble and teachable heart. Show me where I keep repeating foolish patterns, and give me the courage and honesty to change direction. Help my walk match the faith I speak of. IJNIP amen ♥️
