WHAT DO YOU DO EVERY DAY - AND IT’S SHAPING WHO YOU ARE

What is your daily routine that has almost become sacred?

Is it the gym? Eating breakfast with your family? Reading your Bible? Maybe it’s TV, scrolling your phone, talk radio, or listening to the news every morning.

Whatever it is, that daily practice is setting your sail. It’s orienting your trajectory for the entire day. Here’s something I’ve learned:

What you do every day becomes who you are.

In Exodus 29:38, God gives this instruction: “Every day from now on, offer on the altar two lambs that are one year old” (NCV). Every single day. Morning and evening.

Why would God prescribe something so repetitive? Because we need Him every single day.

I think a lot of people have turned their faith into a routine instead of a relationship. They know about God, but do they really know God? Are they really spending time with Him?

They go to church, they might read a verse or two, but are they actually spending time with Jesus? Are they listening to the Holy Spirit, or just checking boxes?

Wait, before you dismiss this - how is your time with God reshaping you? Pause for a moment and ask how are you different from last year?

We’re all looking for something that actually satisfies, something that lasts. And most of what we’re giving our daily attention to isn’t it, it’s just true.

Here’s what I see: People are going way too fast. Schedules are packed. Jobs are demanding more and more. And somewhere in all that noise, something essential gets lost.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:6, “When you pray, you should go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who cannot be seen” (NCV).

Your prayer closet. A quiet place where it’s just you and God. When’s the last time you actually did that? I love my quiet room with a fire. Or the front porch. Any quiet place can be your closet.

And I’m not talking about a quick prayer while brushing your teeth, but actually getting alone, shutting the door, turning off your phone, and being still?

In the quiet, we count our blessings. We remember our identity in Christ. We ask ourselves: Where am I going? Am I living like this temporary life is all there is?

I’m renting a nice mountain house. It would be ridiculous for me to spend thousands renovating it, knowing I’m leaving in a week. Yet that’s how so many people live their entire lives—pouring everything into things they’re leaving behind.

Renovating a rental. How close does your life resemble this?

Are you living like you’re dying? Because you are. We all are. Are you investing in eternity? Are you helping others see there’s more than just this?

Those daily lambs in Exodus were pointing to Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Every single day, those priests were reminded: You need covering. You need grace. You need God. And so do we. Every single day.

God doesn’t bring us to Him to make us feel condemned. He brings us to Himself so we can remember we’re covered. So we can see His grace. So we can marinate on our saved identity and be thankful.

Are you experiencing and feeling His covering today?

Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The LORD’s love never ends; his mercies never stop. They are new every morning” (NCV). New every morning. Fresh mercies. Daily grace.

Think about your phone. You can have the most powerful phone in the world, but if you don’t charge it daily, it’s useless. That’s us. We’re designed to be charged by God first, so when others need us, we actually have something to offer.

Jesus said in John 15:5, “If any remain in me and I remain in them, they produce much fruit. But without me they can do nothing” (NCV).

David wrote in Psalm 5:3, “LORD, every morning you hear my voice. Every morning, I tell you what I need” (NCV).

So what is your daily altar? What are you giving your attention to every single day? How is your time with God changing and growing you?

If your daily altar is anger and the news cycle, you’re becoming anxious and angry. If it’s comparison and scrolling, you’re becoming insecure. If it’s just work and achievement, you’re becoming empty.

But if your daily altar is God’s Word, prayer, and listening to the Holy Spirit—you’re becoming someone ready for eternity. You’re investing in what lasts.

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 4:16, “Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day” (NCV).

So slow down. Find that quiet place. Turn off the noise. Ask yourself: Who am I really? Where am I going? Am I investing in eternity?

The sacrifice has been made. Jesus has done the work. The altar is ready. We just need to come. Daily. Not to earn anything, but to remember we’re covered, we’re loved, we’re not staying here, and what we do with our days matters for forever.

What you do every day becomes who you are. Would you consider reorientating your day? Maybe do it differently? If you will, it will change who you are - I promise.

GOD, help me always start my day with you. Yes, I may have to get up earlier, but help me do that. Help me give you my best - first. That’s what you have done for us. CHRIST, thank you for paying for my sins. Help me live in grattitude and sin less. HOLY SPIRIT, help me schedule, prioritize, and change who I am. Help me look at my health, my habits, my hobbies, the important things in life. Because I’m leaving, and help me live like I’m leaving. Christ - more of you, less of me. That’s how I want to do this life. IJNIP amen ♥️
