Wendy’s Brain Tumor: When You Can’t Control What Happens Next
How do you handle something in your life that’s so big, so concerning, and completely out of your control? What do you do with the fear and uncertainty of what might happen next?
THE DIAGNOSIS
In July 2026, Wendy discovered she had a brain tumor about the size of a blueberry, located near her brainstem, behind her right ear.
If it continues to grow, and it appears it is, doctors may have to remove a 4 by 4 inch section of her skull to attempt to remove it. The surgery carries risks of permanent facial paralysis, having to learn to walk again, and losing hearing in her right ear.
HOW SHE IS HANDLING IT
So, how’s Wendy handling all this, knowing surgery could be coming in 2027?
And what about you? What’s that huge thing in your life? For me, it’s needing a new knee in a month, wondering if my leukemia could return, or if some other disease might show up.
WHAT TO DO
Here’s what I believe we should do. Ask God to help us find a good doctor. Ask Him for wisdom to make good decisions. Then do something! Find that doctor, get help, work hard on the solution, and pray for healing and freedom from fear. You have to get going.
WHY DO WE HAVE TROUBLE?
God never promised us a life without trouble. In fact, Jesus said:
“In this world you will have trouble, but be brave! I have defeated the world.” (John 16:33 NCV)
And today, I read:
“You will not be afraid of diseases that come in the dark or sickness that strikes at noon.” (Psalms 91:6 NCV)
We simply are not immune to disease or hard things. Wendy has a brain tumor. I’ve had cancer. But we don’t have to live controlled by fear when our lives are anchored in God. This is where our faith becomes real.
WHAT DO YOU LEAN ON DURING HARD TIMES
Jesus told a story about two men who built houses. One built on rock, the other on sand. Both experienced storms, but only the house built on rock stood. (Matthew 7:24 to 27)
The difference wasn’t the storm. It was the foundation. So what do you lean into when it gets tuff. Work harder, try harder, or drop to your knees and plea to God for help?
And that’s what I see in Wendy. She’s not perfect. Of course she’s concerned. But she’s built her life on Jesus Christ, and she’s trusting Him with something she cannot control. And she’s counting her blessing in the middle of it all.
WHERE THE SOLUTION BEGINS
Here is where it begins. Jesus came. He didn’t just come to help us through life’s troubles. He came to save us from our sins and bring to life to a dead soul. He lived the perfect life we couldn’t and won’t live. He died for our sins, and rose again so we could have eternal life. He beat death. When He’s our Savior and Lord, it changes how we face everything, even death.
CONCLUSION
So here’s what I’m learning. Do what you can, trust God with what you cannot, and don’t let tomorrow’s possibilities steal today’s blessings, joy, and happiness. And simply trust God after you pray. Keep trying, but now, you are working with God and enjoying His help.
Find the doctor. Get the treatment. Make wise decisions. Pray. And keep living. You have to decide to live. What are you trying to control that you need to give to God?
The storms will come. Have you built your life on the Rock - and on Christ?
Wendy has. And I’m so thankful. She’s having fun, loving life, while she leans into God.
LORD, thank You for Wendy’s faith. Please heal her, protect her, and guide her doctors. Grow my faith, remove our fears, and help us all trust You more. IJNIP amen ♥️
