I’m Watching You - God Sees Everything - How Does That Affect How You Live?
How aware are you, on a day-to-day basis, that God is watching you? He sees everything. Do you really believe that? And if you do, how does knowing God sees you (and me) change the way you live?
WHAT BROUGHT THIS UP TODAY
I’m reading about the days of Jeremiah, when God’s people had become rebellious. They were living sinful lives, mistreating others, worshiping false gods, and yet they continued going to the Temple to worship God as though everything was fine.
God told Jeremiah to deliver this message:
“This place where I have chosen to be worshiped is nothing more to you than a hideout for robbers. I have been watching you, says the LORD.” (Jeremiah 7:11 NCV)
So, what’s God saying? He’s saying that the people were treating His Temple like a safe hiding place. They thought they could live however they wanted, show up to worship, perform their religious duties, and somehow escape God’s judgment. Hmmm - that sounds familiar - right?
But God said, “I have been watching you.”
SO, IS HE REALLY WATCHING YOU?
In the original Hebrew, the expression emphasizes that God “Himself” has seen what they’ve been doing. Nothing was hidden from Him. Their worship didn’t fool Him, and neither did their religious appearance.
In Jeremiah’s day, God had chosen the Temple in Jerusalem as a special place associated with His presence and worship. But today, through Jesus Christ, believers (our bodies) are described as God’s Temple because His Holy Spirit lives within us (1 Corinthians 6:19).
HOW DOES HIS SEEING YOU AFFECT YOU?
So, If God lives within you and me, how much of our lives are we actually surrendering to Him? Health, thoughts, love, forgiveness, kindness, honestly - the list goes on.
I have to stop for a moment and visualize God watching me. Looking down at me while I even type this. Not just on Sunday morning, but every moment of every day.
He sees you and me when we are sinning. He knows what we are thinking, even when nobody else does. He sees the things you and I do in secret, the words we say, the attitudes we carry, and the motives behind our decisions.
But don’t stop there. Here’s some good news.
He also sees your heartache. He sees you struggling with something nobody knows about. He sees your disappointments, your fears, your loneliness, and your tears. He sees you trying to do what’s right when doing wrong would be so much easier.
And yes, He sees your successes, your generosity, your kindness, your obedience, and those quiet moments when you choose to honor Him.
WHAT DOES GOD THINK ABOUT YOU AS HE SEES?
So what is God thinking as He watches you? He’s looking at you right now. What’s He feeling and thinking about you?
Well, we can’t know every thought or plan God has for us, but Scripture tells us something remarkable about His character.
God is holy, so He doesn’t overlook sin. God is just, so He holds us accountable. But God is also loving, patient, merciful, and full of grace.
He doesn’t watch us simply to catch us doing something wrong. He watches because He knows us, cares for us, and wants us to walk with Him.
Psalm 139 tells us that God knows when we sit down and when we get up. He knows our thoughts before we speak. There isn’t a moment when we’re outside His knowledge or presence.
WHAT’S GOD REACTION TO WHAT HE SEES?
And think about this: God knew of humanity’s sin and rebellion, even before creation. And rather than abandoning us, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us. That’s how much God loves us!
Does that mean God will protect us from every hardship, give us everything we ask for, or make life easy? No. But it does mean we can trust His presence, His wisdom, His promises, and His eternal plan for those who belong to Christ.
GOING FORWARD
So let me leave you with this. If you could actually see God watching you, would you live differently? Would you speak differently to your spouse? Treat people differently? Be more honest? More forgiving? More generous? Would you stop doing some things you’re doing and start doing some things you’ve been avoiding?
And when life gets hard, would you worry less, knowing that the God who sees you also loves you and will help you.
Maybe the greatest lesson from Jeremiah isn’t simply that God sees everything. It’s that we should live every day remembering He does. Not pretending to be godly, but genuinely seeking to become more like Jesus Christ.
CONCLUSION
And when we fail, rather than hiding from God, we can come to Him, confess our sins, repent (change our ways), and receive His forgiveness and help through Christ.
God is watching you today, actually right now. And that’s both a sobering thought and a wonderful comfort.
LORD, see me. I’m thankful You see me. Forgive my sins that You see, even the ones I try to hide. Help me be more like You. Thank You for watching over me, loving me, and never abandoning me. And most of all, thank You for Jesus Christ and for saving my soul through Him. IJNIP amen ♥️
