Your Story Matters

How do you share your story? Your history? Your successes and your failures?
Why share your stories? Who should you share your stories with?
I say start with our children. Or for that matter, any children.
There’s something powerful about a parent passing down the stories of God. Not just Bible stories, but your stories. The ones where God showed up when you needed Him most.
The miracles you can’t explain. The peace that made no sense. The strength that got you through something you thought would break you.
King David once said:
“Parents will tell their children what you have done. They will retell your mighty acts. They will tell about the amazing things you do, and I will tell how great you are. They will tell about the glory of your kingdom and will speak about your power. The Lord is close to everyone who prays to him, to all who truly pray to him.” (Psalm 145:4, 6, 11, 18 NCV)
I think that’s our job. It’s one of our main purposes. To tell the truth about who God is and what He’s done.
What’s so simple is that we don’t need a stage or a microphone. We just need a kitchen table. A campfire. A ride in the car. A few quiet moments at bedtime. I think those are the moments where hearts are open and memories are made.
The truth is for me - God has been faithful. He still is. And I feel a pull to share it. No, not everyone is curious or desires to listen but still …
Actually, to share is a command. And this is more than just a nice idea—it’s God’s command.
“Be careful! Don’t forget what you have seen God do for you. Keep reminding yourselves, and teach your children and grandchildren. (Deuteronomy 4:9 NCV)
Our kids don’t need perfection, they need truth. They need to know that when you were hurting or afraid, God was and is there.
“Come and listen, all you who respect God, and I will tell you what he has done for me.” (Psalm 66:16 NCV)
God will not allow pain, waiting, victories or even failures in our life to be wasted. I hope my sin, my successes, my cancers, my losses and even my gains are all things that I share how God has helped me.
I hope when I share how God came through, I’m building somone’s faith, planting a seed and giving someone a reason to keep believing.
So what are you talking about today? What do you find yourself talking about on a regular basis?
Because I believe, the next generation won’t just learn faith from a sermon. They’ll learn it from your story.
GOD, help us let others know how much of a big deal you, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and other people are to us. Help me tell stories. IJNIP amen ♥️
