Why You Do What You Do

What would you say is your primary motivator for doing things - anything?
For example, why do you dress the way you do? Why do you maintain your health the way you do? Why do you work the way you do? Why do you worship (or not)?
The list could go on about choosing friends, watching certain shows and movies, as well as deciding your hobbies and entertainment.
I beleive the answer is very simple as to why we do what we do. We do what we do because we love. We invest time, energy and money on the things and the people we love.
For most, things we love, provide security, safety, and contentment. At the end of the day, we do what we want, where we want and with who we want.
Simply stated, we do what we love. Yes, there are some jobs and tasks we don’t like, however, for the most part, we are involved in what we love.
How would you rate your obedience of God’s laws? How well do you follow the teachings of Jesus Christ?
I ask because your obedience and worship is driven by how much you love God, Christ and others.
Jesus said “If you love me, you will obey my commands.” (John 14:15 NCV)
He also said “Those who know my commands and obey them are the ones who love me, and my Father will love those who love me. I will love them and will show myself to them.” (John 14:21 NCV)
In my book “You Finishing Well”, I tell a story of loving cigars, while my wife hated them. One day, I decided I loved my wife more than cigars and quit.
So when it comes to God, Christ and loving and forgiving others, our actions are driven by our love, not necessarily duty. However, I will say, if you show love, love will grow - even for those that are hard to love.
I’ve learned that following the commands of God and Christ brings peace, contentment, confidence and blessing. Even loving the unlovely has a level of satisfaction if you are committed to love others as yourself.
Maybe it’s time to evaluate your love.
For me, I want to love things that will last and that are permanent. Loving selfishly normally grows old and leaves us empty.
There is nothing Iike giving true love away.
LORD, there is nothing better than following you. Help me do it with love, honor and respect. Help me love others as myself. Help me love you and the commands you provide me. And please bless my obedience to love and honor you. IJNIP amen ♥️
