Why We Don’t Change

What area of your life has been nagging and eroding you? It could be health, addiction, a relationship, a career and the list could keep going.

What in your life needs to change and yet, it remains? Why haven’t you overcome? We all have something don’t we?

Most are familiar with the Bible story of the Prodigal Son. The story is loaded with lessons. I want to focus on the reason the Prodigal Son chose to humbly go home and confess his prideful demand of his inheritance and loose living.

Yes, for a while he loved the money and the foolish living. One day, the money ran out and:

”The son was so hungry that he wanted to eat the pods the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. When he realized what he was doing, he thought, ‘All of my father’s servants have plenty of food. But I am here, almost dying with hunger. I will leave and return to my father and say to him, “Father, I have sinned against God and against you.” (Luke‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

For some reason, too many times, we don’t change until we are “sufficiently disturbed”. We know the problem exists, yet we are not sufficiently disturbed “yet”.

Why do we wait until that time? In waiting, we face so much unhappiness, lack of fulfillment and life simply is not complete until we come clean.

There is nothing better than to confess our weakness, find someone to share our burden with and ask for help from a good friend - and God.

You and I could overcome starting today.

Just draw a line, write “start” and give it your best to finish well. And when you screw up again, and you probably will, it’s okay. Just draw another line and start over.

When you are down the road, you will look back and see all the lines. You won’t be where you desire, but you won’t be where you were.

LORD, help us react before hitting rock bottom. Sometimes, we can’t rise from the bottom and it’s too late. Help us and give us strength where we are weak. IJNIP amen ♥️
