Who’s Your Best Friend - And Why?

Why is your best friend your best friend? Our best friends can bring out the worst or the best.

I think women do best friends better than men. However even they can get each other into trouble. But women seem to share, talk and some pray together.

I remember my best friends when I was young - Wendell, and then I moved - then Fred. We were running buddies, and partners in crime.

In those days, God was not part of my friendships.

Later, a best friend name David came into my life, we hunted together. After we both married, we continued camping, hunting and dining together as couples. But that was pretty much the depth of it.

Are you familiar with David and Jonathan? Before David became King David, he and Jonathan became best friends. They both loved God and shared that common love.

Later, they had to split up because of Jonathan’s Father’s jealousy of David (King Saul). When they split, David was out in the field.

As they split up, “David bowed facedown on the ground before Jonathan three times. Then David and Jonathan kissed each other and cried together, but David cried the most.” (1 Samuel‬ ‭20‬:‭41‬ ‭NCV‬)

“Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace. We have promised by the Lord that we will be friends. (‭1 Samuel‬ ‭20‬:‭42‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

I know it sounds so religious and some may think I’m saying everything is about reading the Bible, praying and worshipping. Not really.

There’s nothing better than having some good old fun, traveling, doing hobbies and just enjoying the scenery and good times with a good friend.

However, if God is not the foundation of our friendships, it lacks the most important ingredient. Otherwise, we can live in shallow ways, and even get ourselves in trouble with our friends.

There is nothing better than a friend that holds you accountable, builds you up, and elevates who you are. Are you that kind of friend to someone? Do you have friends like that?

If not, maybe it’s time to find a new friend.

GOD, there is nothing better than you being the glue that holds two friends together. It’s a common bond that cannot be broken. Help us build relationships that grow, honor you and serve others. IJNIP amen ♥️
