Where Is Your Heart?

What are the deep feelings in your heart? Where do those feelings lean - in what direction?

Do those feeling lean toward your appearance? Do they lean toward your comfort or entertainment? Do they lean toward another person, a job, wealth or some addiction?

Jesus himself said “Your heart will be where your treasure is.” (Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭21‬ ‭NCV‬‬) What do you treasure?

I know a young man who loves Jesus. He loves God and trusts in The Holy Spirit. His body is being attacked by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. Soon, you can’t walk, talk, feed yourself, eat or even swallow, and eventually you can’t breathe - resulting in respitory failure and death.

His heart is set on being healed. He prays against suffering. He’s married, has a beautiful wife and and 4 beautiful children. As of today, there is no cure for ALS.

His heart is set on God because he needs him more now than ever.

What’s the biggest thing in your life today? What affections are on your heart? What direction is your leaning today? We can get so preoccupied with self and things we lust for.

As you know, many profess Christianity, yet they may not possess what they profess.

“The Lord said of the people of Jerusalem at one time: “These people worship me with their mouths, and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is based on nothing but human rules.” (Isaiah‬ ‭29‬:‭13‬ ‭NCV‬)

The truth is, some go to church, sing the songs, own a bible, wear a cross and do religous things, however God is not woven our very life and our heart is not saturated in a love for him and for others.

I suppose the deep question is; “Is our heart sold out to God and his ways?” What are His ways?

God’s ways love others. His ways show mercy, patience and forgiveness - because he forgives us. Forgivenss is grace. It’s a love for the undeserved. A love for God meets with him, talks to him and desires to read his words. God’s love helps those in need. His love causes us to be other-centered and not self-centered.

So where is your heart and in which direction does it lean?

GOD, help my heart love you and love others. Help me love especially the unlovely and frankly everyone and anyone. And may others love me when I’m not so lovely. You are life. You are love. And you are the creator and I’m the creation. Help me live as if I believe these things. IJNIP amen ♥️
