Where Does Sin Begin?

When you do wrong, where (and when) did the sin seed germinate?

It starts in the mind, then the heart, then the act. It starts small and can spin out of control.

Normally all sin and even bad habits start small. Do you remember when it was small, and now it’s big? How did that happen?

It happened to King David. “One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of his palace. While he was on the roof, he saw a woman bathing. She was very beautiful.”

“So David sent his servants to find out who she was. A servant answered, “That woman is Bathsheba daughter of Eliam. She is the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”

“So David sent messengers to bring Bathsheba to him. When she came to him, he had sexual relations with her. (Now Bathsheba had purified herself from her monthly period.) Then she went back to her house.” (2 Samuel‬ ‭11‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ ‭NCV‬)

Later, they discovered she became pregnant, David had her husband killed, the baby died and trail of other catastrophes came from this one incident. It spun out of control.

David’s adultery seed was planted a long time ago in his life when he chose to have many wives which was against God’s plan.

His wives were beautiful, yet his lust was unquenched. The lust was in his heart, mind and later whole body. I’m sure he did not play it out how this thing would spin out of control.

Injecting pure things in our mind, helps keep us pure. Thinking of good and healthy things keeps us good and healthy.

The Apostle Paul said “think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.” (Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

What’s on your mind and heart these days? What do you inject into your life? Where is your investment of time, energy and money?

These are good things to ponder and act on.

LORD, help me stay close to you. Help me be in your word and live it out. Help me share it with others and inspire them (and them inspire me) to follow you. Yes, let me have some good old fashioned fun, yet guard me from temptation. IJNIP amen ♥️
