When Sin Implodes

How does a holy and good God interact with evil—especially when the Bible says He sent an evil spirit?
How can that be? And why does God allow bad things to happen in our lives at all?
The truth is: sometimes we don’t fully know. God is mysterious. But maybe the better question isn’t why bad things happen—it’s what does God want us to learn from them?
Take Judges 9:24 (NCV), for example:
“God sent the evil spirit to punish them.” This can feel jarring. What does “evil spirit” even mean here?
In Hebrew context, “evil spirit” doesn’t always mean a demon. It can refer to:
- A destructive or divisive force
- A troubling or oppressive influence
- Even emotional or mental unrest stirred up by God as judgment
In this passage, God allowed a spirit of division between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem. Why? Because together, they had murdered Gideon’s 70 sons—Abimelech’s own brothers.
For three years they ruled together in corruption and godlessness. Then God stepped in. The alliance crumbled from within. Suspicion, betrayal, and hatred grew like cancer, and eventually destroyed them both.
God’s justice was at work—not through demonic partnership, but by allowing evil to unravel itself. Their sin became their sentence.
This is true for us today. God can allow the sin and its affect to implode within us.
This isn’t an isolated example.
- In 1 Samuel 16:14, an “evil spirit from the Lord” tormented King Saul.
- In Exodus 9, God hardened Pharaoh’s heart.
- In Romans 1:24, God “gave them over” to their sin.
Each moment shows a pattern: God can lift His protective hand, allowing sin to run its course and evil to devour itself. He remains sovereign over it all—never the author of evil, but always the Author of justice.
So why would a holy God allow or send a troubling spirit?
Because justice matters. Because hardened hearts have consequences. Because sometimes God lets evil collapse under its own weight.
Here’s the bottom line: God does not become evil or partner with it. But He can:
Withdraw His protection. He can even use dark forces under His complete control—for judgment. He can allow sin to implode as a form of righteous correction.
God can, and sometimes will let sin implode as a form of righteous correction. He sees all. He judges justly. And no sin, no matter how long it goes unchecked, escapes His justice.
But here’s the hope: Jesus Christ is our way out. All we have to do is accept, love, and follow Him as our Lord and Savior.
Why? Because something or someone will always hold that place in our lives.
So let me ask you: Who or what is your Lord and Savior? If it’s not Christ, It’s Satan or satanic influence. It’s not something to play with. Satan is your enemy.
Only Jesus saves, loves, heals, protects, and leads with truth and grace. We are wise to choose Him. But it is our own decision. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 NIV)
GOD, help us to submit to you. To Jesus Christ. To listen to The Holy Spirit. To listen to wise counsel. If not, we will actually end up destroying ourselves. You have provided a way out - it’s Jesus. Help us choose Him. IJNIP amen ♥️
