What Will We Do Forever?

Have you ever stopped to think—what will we actually do forever?
Not just for the next few years, or the rest of our earthly life, but forever. What does that even look like?
And maybe more importantly, what does Jesus mean when He says, “I came to give life—life in all its fullness” (John 10:10 NCV)?
What is this fullness He’s offering? What are we being saved into, not just from?
Scripture gives us glimpses. Jesus said the greatest commands are to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind—and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37–39).
Paul wrote that we’re not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).
Colossians reminds us to set our hearts and minds on things above, not on earthly things. These aren’t just commands for behavior—they’re signposts pointing us toward a much bigger story.
This life is not the whole story. It’s a rehearsal. A preparation. A refining ground for the forever we were made for.
And what will that forever look like?
The Bible says that we won’t spend eternity floating on clouds or strumming harps. In Revelation 21:1, we’re told there will be a new heaven and a new earth.
Not a wispy spiritual realm, but a real, tangible, renewed world—restored and free from sin, death, and decay. We will reign with Christ (Revelation 22:5), not in a prideful way, but with purpose, stewardship, and fulfillment.
We will worship God with joy, no longer weighed down by pain, distractions, or doubt (Revelation 21:3). Every tear will be wiped away. No more sickness. No more grief. Just wholeness, peace, and perfect presence (Revelation 21:4).
Imagine living in a place where your gifts are fully used, your relationships are pure and unbroken, and your joy never runs dry.
Eternity will be filled with exploration, growth, worship, creativity, and meaningful work. Though Scripture doesn’t give us every detail, it gives us enough to trust that God’s eternal plan is not boring—it’s breathtaking.
So what is this “fullness” Jesus promised in John 10:10?
It’s a life rich in peace that doesn’t collapse in the storm. It’s joy that isn’t tied to your bank account or your health. It’s love that doesn’t give up, and hope that doesn’t run out.
It starts the moment you give your life to Christ, and it continues—deeper, richer, and more alive—with every passing moment, all the way into eternity.
So here are the base-line questions: Are you living for the moment, or for the mission? Are you preparing for a forever that is more real and rewarding than anything you’ve known here? What area of your life could be more aligned with eternity, starting now?
GOD, thank You for promising life in all its fullness. Help me live with eternity in view—not just someday, but today. Use my life now to prepare me for the forever You have planned. Let me live with purpose, with joy, and with eyes set on the life that never ends. IJNIP amen ♥️
