Trusting God Even When You Don’t See

If you could measure your faith in God—in Jesus, in the Holy Spirit—how much do you really believe?

Think about it. It’s a massive leap to trust in a God who never had a beginning and will never have an end.

It’s a wide jump to believe that He simply spoke, “Let there be light,” and suddenly, light existed.

It’s difficult to grasp that Jesus left heaven, was born of a virgin, lived perfectly in our place, and died personally for your sins—and mine.

It’s a stretch to depend on an invisible Spirit—the Holy Spirit—who guides our decisions and strengthens us in difficult times.

This reminds me of a man who came to Jesus in desperation:

"Teacher, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit that keeps him from talking." (Mark 9:17 NCV)

Jesus asked, "How long has this been happening?" The father replied, "Since he was very young." (Mark 9:21 NCV)

Then he pleaded with Jesus: "If you can do anything, please have pity on us and help us." (Mark 9:22 NCV)

Jesus responded, "‘If you can?’ All things are possible for the one who believes." (Mark 9:23 NCV)

And immediately, the father cried out, "I do believe! Help me to believe more!" (Mark 9:24 NCV)

Maybe you’re in a place right now where you need something big—really big. How much do you believe that God hears your cry? Do you cry out to Him? Do you believe?

It can be confusing when you pray, and God doesn’t seem to answer the way you expect. What then?

The answer is to trust and believe. Because the truth is, sometimes God’s plan is different from ours.

The night before His crucifixion, Jesus washed His disciples' feet. They had no idea what He was doing. But Jesus told them, "You don’t understand now what I am doing, but you will understand later." (John 13:7 NCV)

God always has a plan. God may be doing something in your life now that you don’t understand, but you will later.

God sees what we cannot. He knows we aren’t leaving this world alive. I believe He sees death differently than we do—not as an end, but as a transition, a comma, the passage to eternity.

So, how much do you believe in eternity? How are you preparing for it? How are you sharing this belief with those who struggle to believe?

Everyone doubts now and then. As with that Father it’s okay. Just ask God to help you believe more. He will answer your prayer.

LORD, we do believe. Help us to believe more. Save us. Rescue us. We love You, and we thank You for Jesus Christ. Help us to believe more.

IJNIP Amen. ❤️
