The Day Sin Lost It’s Power

What sins have you committed? Are there secret sins weighing on your heart?

Why is sin such a big deal—and how important is it, really, that our sins are forgiven?

Let’s start here: what is sin?

Scripture gives us a simple, powerful definition—“Anyone who knows the right thing to do, but does not do it, is sinning.” (James 4:17 NCV)

Jesus didn’t water this down. In fact, He raised the bar. In His Sermon on the Mount, He said things like:

“If you are angry toward others, you are guilty as if you murdered them.” (Matthew 5:22)

And, “If you look lustfully at a woman, it’s the same as committing adultery in your heart.” (Matthew 5:28)

That’s intense. And the point is clear: “There is no one who is without sin, not even one.” (Romans 3:10 NCV)

So—how seriously should we take sin?

Let’s look at a moment from Jesus’ life. A paralyzed man was brought to Him. His friends hoped for healing, but Jesus, seeing their faith, said:

“Friend, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20 NCV) Before addressing his physical condition, Jesus dealt with the man’s sin. Why?

Because to Christ, our spiritual condition is far more urgent than our physical one. Of course, Jesus did go on to heal him—but not before making it clear: forgiveness is the greater miracle.

Isaiah said it plainly:

“It is your sin that has separated you from your God. Your sins cause Him to turn away from you, so He does not hear you.” (Isaiah 59:2 NCV)

Sin steals our peace. It robs us of joy, confidence, security—and leaves us with guilt and shame. It destines us to Hell.

But there’s good news: Jesus Christ was sinless. He lived the perfect life God requires—and He did it for you. For me. For us.

Sin had a cost. And Jesus paid it.

He gave His life in our place. His death covered your past, present, and even future sins.

All we’re called to do is believe it, receive it, and trust Him. Ask Christ to be Lord over your life—and Savior of your soul. If you do, your sins are forgiven. Completely.

Honestly? What humbles me most is this:

“Christ died for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8 NCV)

Just think about that. Who does that?

Even while He was literally dying—beaten beyond recognition of being human, hands and feet nailed to wooden beams, mocked and humiliated—He never lost sight of His mission:

To make a way for our forgiveness.

And in the middle of that agony, He said, “Father, forgive them, because they don’t know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34 NCV)

That was the day, sin lost its power.

They didn’t realize He was the Son of God, hanging there to rescue their very souls—for eternity. That’s grace. Amazing grace. Truly unbelievable.

LORD—convict us of our sin. Expose what’s hidden. And thank You—a

thousand times over—for sending Jesus Christ to pay the price. Thank You. IJNIP Amen. ♥️
