Living With Purpose In The Middle Of The Mess

As we live life, what is it supposed to look like on a day-to-day basis? What does God’s Word have to say on this topic? Does God speak on this?
As you know, you wake up, work, rest, and repeat. But in the middle of all that routine — and all the noise, opinions, and chaos around us, I sometimes wonder, “Am a doing a good job at the day to day? “
I think God calls us to something deeper. He didn’t design us to simply exist but to live with purpose, intention, certainly love and even peace. Something about how we live should reflect Him, model Jesus, and follow the Holy Spirit. But how and what does that look like?
Here’s a few verses that may guide us:
“The Lord has told you what is good; He has told you what He wants from you: to do what is right, to love being kind, and to live humbly, obeying your God.” (Micah 6:8 NCV)
This may be a starting point for a meaningful life. Do what’s right. Be kind. Walk humbly. When the world grows cynical or self-centered, God’s people are called to live differently. Be positive, forgive, love, and always do what God says, even when it’s hard.
“Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5–6 NCV)
This is hard as our desires pull us in a different direction. Every day brings choices, conflict, and uncertainty. I think the foundation of this verse is to pray. I don’t mean a sentence and one minute. I mean 10-15-30 minutes at times. Praying and trusting God turns confusion into clarity and worry into peace.
“Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking.” (Romans 12:2 NCV)
It’s hard to “not” follow culture and get off our devices. All the nasty starts in our minds. So we must read, pray, talk to others who can help us, in order to reshape our thoughts. Even Christian music with lyrics can help change our thoughts.
Psalm 119:37 says, “Keep me from looking at worthless things. Let me live by your word.” I don’t need to tell you that we spend far too much time scrolling and watching worthless things.
“You are the light that gives light to the world… Live so that people will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14–16 NCV)
Living with intention means to seek out people to love and help. As we do, we heal - and help them heal. Light stands out in darkeness. Live out our faith and even speak it to others who need its help.
“But respect Christ as the holy Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to answer everyone who asks you to explain about the hope you have.” (1 Peter 3:15 NCV)
Sharing your faith isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being honest. Tell your story. Talk about how Jesus steadied you through pain, gave peace in chaos, and turned your life around. People relate to stories, not sermons. Share your life. You may not think you have something unique, but you do.
Jesus said, “Go and make followers of all people in the world… and teach them to obey everything that I have told you.” (Matthew 28:19–20 NCV)
That command isn’t just for pastors or missionaries, it’s for all of us. As you live with purpose in a messy world, your life becomes an invitation for others to find the same hope.
“Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 13:34–35 NCV)
Love is the proof that Jesus is real in your life. Not love in words, but in actions, forgiving, helping, and showing grace where others give judgment.
So what does it look like to live with purpose in the world’s mess?
It looks like Jesus. It’s including all of these elements into our normal day. It’s loving God with all. Loving others as ourself. Praying, seeking help, giving help and sharing your story. It can be full and satisfying. God’s words are for our own benefit - live them and I promise, we all will discover a new and exciting life.
I know this sounds so religous, but it is what a full life truly looks like. How’s your life looking?
GOD, help me live with purpose in a world that’s often lost and loud. Teach me to trust You fully, love deeply, and live differently. Let my life reflect Your grace in every word, every action, and every moment, so others might see You in me. IJNIP amen ♥️
