It’s Your Decision - Your Life

Why don’t people believe God’s Word and follow Him?

I’ve wondered that so many times. It’s a leap of faith, for sure. But faith doesn’t come from effort or logic, it’s the Holy Spirit who opens a person’s heart to believe, trust, and receive Jesus for salvation and eternal life.

Only the Holy Spirit can do that. But even so, at the end of the day, it’s your decision, and your life. Honestly - it’s your problem, not mine.

I don’t say that coldly; I say it truthfully - and sadly. You and I each stand before God on our own. And honestly, it breaks my heart when people refuse His truth, because God is not trying to ruin anyone’s life. He’s trying to rescue it.

Back in Jeremiah’s day, the people faced this same moment of decision. Jeremiah gave them a direct word from God: “Do not go to Egypt.” He warned them that if they ran there for safety, disaster would follow.

“He finished telling the people the message from the Lord their God; he told them everything the Lord their God had sent him to tell them. Azariah son of Hoshaiah, Johanan son of Kareah, and some other men were too proud. They said to Jeremiah, ‘You are lying! The Lord our God did not send you to say, “You must not go to Egypt to live there.”’ So Johanan, the army officers, and all the people disobeyed the Lord’s command to stay in Judah.” (Jeremiah 43:1-2, 4 NCV)

They didn’t believe God’s warning, so they went to Egypt anyway. And what happened? Exactly what God said. They were destroyed there.

The place they thought would protect them became their destruction. God had been trying to save them, bless them, and give them peace, but their own reasoning led to ruin.

And it still happens today. People reject God’s voice because they think they know better. But if you’re rejecting God, what’s your better answer?

What plan do you have that’s stronger, wiser, or more eternal than His?

Is it sex, alcohol, addiction, your stuff, your career, the universe? We all want truth, peace, forgiveness, and a reason to live—but how will you find those things apart from the One who created you?

The Holy Spirit is the one who draws us to truth.

Jesus said, “The Holy Spirit will come and show the people of the world the truth about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment.” (John 16:8 NCV)

But there’s a serious warning from Jesus about rejecting that Spirit: “People can be forgiven for every sin and for speaking against God. But anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” (Matthew 12:31 NCV)

That word blaspheme means to reject, insult, or speak against. It’s not about a careless word, it’s about a heart that keeps saying “no” to God.

When a person continually rejects the Spirit’s call to accept Jesus as Savior, there’s no forgiveness left, because they’ve turned away from the only One who can forgive.

That’s what makes this such a serious moment. You and I must come to terms with who God is. He’s the Creator; we are His creation. He doesn’t work for us. He doesn’t report to us.

This is His Kingdom. He owns it all, and we’re guests and stewards in His world.

But oh, how gracious He is. Even though we’re stubborn and proud at times, He keeps offering mercy. Jesus already paid the full price for our sins with His suffering and death, so we could be forgiven, healed, and made whole.

“Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin so that in Christ we could become right with God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21 NCV)

So yes, it’s your decision, your life. But the invitation still stands. If you want truth, pray right now. Ask God to reveal Himself. Tell Him, “Lord, I don’t want my way anymore. I want Yours.”

Because your life matters too much to throw away.

“Today listen to what he says. Do not be stubborn as in the past.” (Hebrews 3:15 NCV)

LORD, HOLY SPIRIT, please reveal the truth to those who question it. IJNIP amen ❤️
