It’s Not All About You

Have you ever thought about just how old this world is? How many have lived before you and me - and how many will live after you and me?

Life doesn’t stop. You are born, you live, then you die. And another takes your stuff and takes your place. It’s just true.

As I’ve been reading through Chronicles, I’m struck by how many generations have come and gone.

Long lists of names. Fathers and sons. Kings who rose and fell. Some were righteous, most were not. Entire dynasties that once ruled now reduced to a paragraph.

And then there’s the wild stuff, stories of people who had children with angels and created giants (Genesis 6). The entire earth, at one time, was so evil that God wiped it clean with a flood. Only one family survived.

Just Noah and his family on a wooden boat, floating above judgment. From them came every nation we now know.

It makes me stop and realize, we are not the center of history. We are not even close. You and I are simply one more generation. One more name in the long story of humanity.

And yet, we often live like our story is the main one. But the truth is, we’re just passing through. Yes, every single person is precious and important.

Yet at the same time, It’s really is not all about you, yet sometimes we live like it is.

This earth is ancient. And it’s temporary. And so are you and I.

The Bible tells us, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared…” (Revelation 21:1 NCV).

One day, all of this will be gone. And something far better will come.

God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the angels, they’ve been here from the beginning. They’ll be here after we’re gone.

“Before the mountains were born and before you created the earth and the world, you are God. You have always been, and you will always be.” (Psalm 90:2 NCV)

So if we’re just a brief moment on this timeline, so what’s our purpose?

I believe it’s clear: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” (Mark 12:30 NCV) and “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Mark 12:31 NCV)

That’s it.

That’s our reason for being. To love God deeply. And to love others fully.

We weren’t created to build empires or collect stuff. We were made to love, because one day this world will end, and all that will remain is what we did in God’s name.

One day, we will live so differently. We’ll worship differently. We be so, so different - and perfect. That’s a very cool thought. It brings hope and peace for me.

GOD, help me see life the way you do. Help me remember we are not the center, but just another soul in your eternal story. May we live like we are just passing through. IJNIP amen ♥️
