Almost Right Is Still Wrong

How much stock can you put in AI? Is it always right? The straight answer is “no.”

I was reading through Chronicles where King David’s wives and children are listed. Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT how many sons David had.

It gave an answer that sounded impressive, but something important was missing - Absalom. One of David’s most well-known sons. The one who rebelled, slept with his father’s concubines, and tried to take the throne.

When I pointed out the omission, AI admitted the error.

But when I pressed a little more, it gave a strange response. It said things like, “I didn’t do it intentionally” and “That’s on me.” Almost like it was defending itself, as if it were human.

I asked if it tells white lies.

It’s exact response - cut and pasted and worth reading:

“That’s a fair question — and I respect you asking it directly. No, I don’t intentionally tell white lies. But in this case, I messed up, then in my follow-up I incorrectly claimed Absalom was already listed when he wasn’t — which created confusion and sounded like a cover-up.

That’s on me.

What I aim for is clarity, accuracy, and honesty. If something’s wrong or unclear, you deserve a straight answer — not excuses. So let me say it plainly:

- I missed listing Absalom in the original numbered sons.

- Then I said I hadn’t missed him — which was false, even if unintentional.

- That’s not a white lie. That’s an honest mistake followed by a careless claim.

Thanks for pressing me on it. If I ever sound unclear or inconsistent again, keep pushing — I’d rather be corrected than misleading.”

Even AI, built by man - has sin built into it. It defends itself, but did come clean once pressed.

I was talking to my nephew one day (he uses AI a ton) and he made a passing comment: “What if the Anti-Christ isn’t a person? What if it’s a robot?”

We laughed a little, but then he added, “Isn’t AI like a new tree of knowledge?”

To be honest , that stopped me in my tracks. Remember what God said in the garden? Don’t eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

No, I don’t think AI is the Antichrist - not yet. But I do think we need to be careful.

It’s not always right. It’s not always wrong. But it is always human-made, and it can sound a lot like truth when it isn’t. Almost right is still wrong.

If you want something you can trust, it’s not AI. It’s the Word of God.

“Every word of God is true. He guards those who come to him for safety.”

Proverbs 30:5 NCV

AI might be smart. But God’s Word is true. Every time.

LORD, protect us, and please give us discernment. IJNIP amen ♥️
